My Story
How it all began...
Hi, I'm Jessica McGowan (née Black), the owner and baker behind Blackout Bakery.
Like many great stories, mine started with a simple love for baking and a willingness to learn.
When I first picked up a piping bag, I wasn't creating perfect cakes. My buttercream was messy, my cakes leaned to one side, and I had plenty to learn. But every cake I made brought smiles to family and friends, and that feeling became the reason I kept going. I quickly realized that baking wasn't just about making beautiful desserts. It was about creating something personal that became part of someone's happiest memories.
Over the years, I poured countless hours into practicing, learning new techniques, and perfecting my craft. What began as a creative hobby slowly became something much bigger. Eventually, I made the leap of faith to leave my full-time career and turn my passion into Blackout Bakery, a home-based bakery built on creativity, quality, and genuine care for every customer.
Today, every cake, cookie, cupcake, and dessert that leaves my kitchen is made with the same excitement that inspired me from the very beginning. Whether I'm creating an elegant wedding cake, birthday cupcakes, or a box of gourmet cookies, my goal is always the same: to create something that tastes incredible and becomes part of a celebration you'll always remember.
